Rekha Gupta, a former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president and three-time MCD councillor, is the new Chief Minister of Delhi. After the announcement, celebrations erupted at her Shalimar Bagh residence. BJP supporters and family members gathered, cheering with slogans like “Sabko dekha, aa gayi Rekha” and “Jai Shri Ram.” Dhols and nagadas added to the festive atmosphere.

Her husband, businessman Manish Gupta, expressed excitement and promised to support her. Her mother-in-law, Meera Gupta, distributed sweets. She said Rekha would achieve what the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could not.

Political Journey and Leadership

A first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Gupta is set to take the oath as Delhi’s CM, making her the only woman to currently lead a BJP-ruled state or Union Territory. Although she was born in Haryana’s Jind district, she moved to Delhi at the age of two. Her political career truly began in 1993 when she joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). During this time, she served as DUSU’s general secretary (1995-96) and later as its president (1996-97).

Furthermore, she holds degrees in commerce, management, and arts from Delhi University. After completing her education, she joined the BJP in 2002. Since then, she has steadily risen through the ranks, holding leadership positions in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and BJP Mahila Morcha. Additionally, she served as a member of the BJP National Executive, further cementing her influence within the party.
