The stranded duo has been aboard the ISS since June due to propulsion issues with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft they were testing on its first crewed mission. Consequently, these issues rendered the spacecraft unfit for their return to Earth. As a result, they have remained in orbit longer than anticipated.
