Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh – The arrest of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi triggered a wave of anger among party workers across the country, including in Mainpuri, where local Congress members launched a strong protest.
Reacting swiftly to the development, Congress workers in Mainpuri gathered outside the District Magistrate’s office at the Collectorate and staged a demonstration. Led by Pradesh General Secretary Prakash Pradhan, the protestors raised loud slogans and accused the central government and the Election Commission of conspiring against opposition leaders.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans, the protestors alleged that the arrest of Rahul Gandhi was not just politically motivated but also a direct attack on Indian democracy. They claimed it was an attempt to silence voices that question the government’s functioning and policies.
During the demonstration, the Congress delegation submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through a revenue officer. In the memorandum, they demanded an independent investigation into the arrest and criticized what they called the “nexus” between the central government and the Election Commission.
Speaking to the media, Prakash Pradhan said, “Whenever someone from the opposition raises uncomfortable questions, they are targeted through misuse of power. Rahul Gandhi’s arrest is not just unlawful, but it is a dark day for democracy.”
The Congress leaders urged the President to intervene and ensure justice. They also demanded that the questions raised by Rahul Gandhi, particularly regarding government transparency and alleged corruption, should be answered in the public domain.
The protest in Mainpuri was part of a broader nationwide outrage by Congress supporters, who view this incident as a deliberate suppression of dissent ahead of crucial electoral battles.
