Shocking Incident at Pune’s Swargate Bus Stand

A man allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a Maharashtra state transport bus at the busy Swargate bus stand in Pune. Police reported the incident on Wednesday, stating it occurred on Tuesday morning at one of the largest terminals operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

Manhunt Underway for Suspect

Pune police have filed a case against the suspect, Dattatray Ramdas Gade, who is currently on the run. “Teams are actively working to apprehend the accused,” said DCP Smartana Patil of Pune City police. Notably, Gade has a criminal history that includes theft and chain snatching.

Victim’s Response and Police Action

DCP Patil explained that the victim waited for a bus to return to her village between 5:30 and 6:30 AM when the suspect approached her. He misled her by claiming that the bus to her destination was parked elsewhere and led her to a different bus. When she expressed concern about the darkness inside, he convinced her to enter, suggesting she could use a torch.

Once inside, he locked the door and assaulted her. After the incident, the woman took another bus to her village. A friend encouraged her to report the crime, which led to the filing of a complaint against Gade. “We have identified the accused and are making every effort to apprehend him. The victim is currently stable,” DCP Patil confirmed.
