The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is making significant strides, including the recent launch of a 200m ‘Make in India’ steel bridge. This bridge is part of the ongoing construction efforts, which also feature a 1.4 km bridge over the Narmada River, showcasing rapid progress in the overall project.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Launch of 200m Steel Bridge
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project will launch the first span of a 200-meter-long steel bridge in March 2025. The team plans to complete the entire structure by August 2025. This bridge, part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, will be installed near Nadiad in Gujarat along National Highway-48. This highway is a vital corridor connecting Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
Major Milestone in India’s High-Speed Rail Project
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has reached a significant milestone with the construction of this steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. The bridge consists of two 100-meter spans, measuring 14.3 meters wide and 14.6 meters high. This advancement represents a crucial step in transforming high-speed rail travel in India.
Engineering Highlights and Future Plans
The Salasar Workshop near Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, manufactured the bridge, which weighs approximately 1,500 metric tons. It features Tension Control High-Strength Bolts (TTHSB) for added durability. Additionally, the bridge has a C-5 System Painting coating, making it the first of its kind in India. The MAHSR corridor will include a total of 28 steel bridges, with 11 in Maharashtra and 17 in Gujarat. So far, six steel bridges have been completed in Gujarat, showcasing India’s engineering capabilities and commitment to indigenous manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
