In a shocking turn of events, former MLA Dilip Vamanrao Bansod, a prominent Congress party leader from Tiroda Tehsil in Gondia district, became the victim of a robbery at his residence just weeks before the upcoming elections. Bansod, who is campaigning under the Congress party’s “Hand” symbol, now faces a significant setback following this criminal act.
The Robbery Incident
The robbery occurred on the night of November 7, between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, despite the proximity of a police station. According to reports, Bansod’s house in Shahid Mishra Ward of Tiroda was targeted by unknown thieves. The incident came to light when Bansod’s driver, Somprakash Bisen, arrived at the house and noticed the main gate being tampered with. Upon entering the house, Bisen discovered that the thieves had ransacked the property, with the bedroom on the first floor being specifically targeted.
Valuables Stolen
The burglars broke open a wardrobe and made off with several valuable items. Among the stolen goods were:
Two gold keychains
A gold mangalsutra
Two gold bracelets
A gold nose ring
Two pairs of gold earrings
A studded gold mangalsutra
In total, around 85 grams (8.5 tolas) of gold jewelry were taken, along with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at Rs 4,47,500.
Police Investigation Underway
The incident has prompted a swift response from the local police. District Superintendent of Police, Gorakh Bhamre, along with Sub-Divisional Officer Sahil Jharkar and Crime Branch Inspector Dinesh Labde, visited the crime scene. The police are currently examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the culprits responsible for the robbery.
A formal case has been filed under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Indian Penal Code, following a complaint lodged by Bansod’s driver, Somprakash Phoolchand Bisen. The investigation is being led by Police Inspector Amit Wankhede of the Tiroda Police Station.
