Nepal Police busts gambling gang; 24 arrested, 10 Indians.

In a major crackdown on illegal online gambling, Nepal Police have arrested 24 individuals, including 10 Indian nationals, who were running a betting racket. Most of the arrested Indians hail from Uttar Pradesh. According to official reports, the gang had conducted transactions amounting to approximately 3 billion Nepalese rupees.

Raid in Lalitpur Leads to Arrests

Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office revealed that a special police team raided two houses in the Sanepa area of Lalitpur metropolis on Saturday. The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 Indians and 14 Nepalese nationals, all involved in duping people through online gaming scams.

Identities of the Arrested Indians

The arrested Indian nationals have been identified as Ajit Kumar, Mukesh Mandal, Manoj Kumar Bajaj, Sumit Khatri, Prabhat Kumar Sah, Om Prakash Khatri, Ravi Prakash Vishwakarma, Ravi Abhishek Ojha, Shivam Pandey, and Manoj Kumar. Most of them belong to Uttar Pradesh. They were operating illegal online betting from two rented houses in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Modus Operandi of the Accused

The gang used WhatsApp to contact potential victims and ran a gambling racket via online betting apps. They facilitated transactions using Indian bank accounts.Investigations have uncovered that the gang processed financial dealings worth 3,04,73,56,612 Nepalese rupees.

Seized Items in Police Raid

During a recent raid, Nepal Police seized a significant amount of electronic devices and financial documents from the accused. The confiscated items included 57 mobile phones, 13 laptops, 34 ATM cards, and 88 SIM cards, suggesting possible financial fraud or cybercrime. Additionally, authorities recovered 12 cheque books, 8 Aadhaar cards, and 6 passports, raising concerns over identity theft and illegal transactions.

This raid highlights growing cyber-related offenses and the efforts of law enforcement in tackling such crimes to maintain security and justice.
